3 Can’t-Miss Digital Updates
Social Media and Advertising
LinkedIn Launches Connected TV and Live Event Ads for B2B Marketers
What’s happening: LinkedIn is launching connected TV (CTV) ads and live event promotions, enabling B2B marketers to target decision-makers across NBCUniversal’s platforms (Paramount, Roku and Samsung Ads). Accordingly, this feature will allow marketers to expand reach beyond the platform. In addition, LinkedIn’s Live Event Ads offer marketers new avenues to promote upcoming LinkedIn events in-stream, addressing visibility challenges and extending outreach capabilities.
Why it matters: With the continued rise of Connected TV (think Amazon Fire Stick or Roku), LinkedIn’s foray into this arena presents great opportunities for B2B marketers. By leveraging these new features, companies can enhance their outreach efforts, engage decision-makers and capitalize on the evolving digital marketing landscape. As LinkedIn continues to expand its video capabilities, staying attuned to these developments is essential to maximize brand exposure and thought leadership opportunities.
X’s Bot Purge Sees Big Accounts Lose Thousands of Followers
What’s happening: X – formerly known as Twitter – has launched a massive effort to combat both bot and spam accounts after user complaints surged. This has resulted in significant drops in follower counts, with Elon Musk himself losing 43,000 followers in 24 hours. Despite the losses, the overall impact seems moderate.
Why it matters: Bots have been a persistent problem for X, sparking criticism from Musk about Twitter’s previous mismanagement of the issue. In 2022, he contested Twitter’s claimed user base, alleging that roughly 20% consisted of bots and/or fake accounts, far surpassing the company’s reported figure of less than 5%. With bots diminishing overall user experience and credibility on the platform, the recent crackdown signifies a step toward restoring authenticity and trust.
LinkedIn’s Rolling Out Company Page Messaging to All Brands
What’s happening: LinkedIn is expanding its Company Page Messaging feature to all businesses after initially rolling it out to select company pages in June 2023. This functionality adds a “message” button to company profiles, making it easier for visitors to connect with businesses directly through the platform. Company admins can manage these messages and assign conversation topics for easier organization on the platform.
Why it matters: The expansion of the Company Page Messaging feature provides another avenue for professional connection within the platform, reflecting a broader trend toward private messaging as a means of communication and networking on social. With LinkedIn partnering with third-party platforms to facilitate messaging via social management tools, brands can gain more capacity to engage with users privately, providing additional opportunities for connection.
